Romantisk komedie om den afdankede popstjerne Alex (Hugh Grant), der får et par dage til at komponere et comeback hit, som han skal indspille sammen med den hotte stjerne Cora Corman. Han har aldrig før skrevet tekster, så han allierer sig med sin lidt pudsige planteekspert (Drew Barrymore), hvis flair for ord viser sig at være et frisk pust til hans musik. Men Sophie er lige kommet ud af et forhold og har ikke lyst til at samarbejde med nogen - og da slet ikke Alex, der lider af en nærmest sygelig angst for faste forhold.
